Il y a quelques jours nous quittait Whitney Houston. Comme dans le cas de Michael Jackson, d’Amy Whinehouse et de plusieurs avant eux, nous assistons actuellement à une reprise majeure de la valeur de l’artiste après son décès.
Selon cet article (lien), il se serait vendu aux États-Unis seulement dans les quelques jours suivant son décès environ 100 000 copies d’album de Whitney Houston ainsi que près de 900 000 chansons individuelles… des augmentations respectives d’environ 17 000% de ventes d’albums et de 5 700% de chansons individuelles. On peut donc imaginer les ventes mondiales… Ses producteurs auront certainement une larme à l’oeil… et un sourire en coin. D’ailleurs, SONY aurait augmenté immédiatement le prix des albums au moins en Angleterre avant de corriger le tir en blâmant un sous-fifre (lien).
De son côté, Dolly Parton, auteure originale du plus grand succès de Whitney «I Will Always Love You» recevra un plus gros chèque d’ici quelques mois. Effectivement, tout auteur reçoit paiement pour chaque reproduction d’une chanson composée ainsi que pour son passage radio.
